Hygienist Services

Our dental hygienist is specially trained to work as part of the team and is primarily concerned with maintaining good oral health and treatment and prevention of gum disease and bad breath.  She works Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday mornings.

Our hygienist works with the dentist to up a suitable cleaning regime which suits you. She will clean your teeth and educate you on how to best care for your teeth and gums effectively, and the effects of diet on oral health.

Regular professional cleaning to remove plaque and tartar and staining, combined with looking after your teeth and gums properly at home will help keep your mouth healthy. A clean and healthy mouth will improve your appearance and give you fresh breath.

Our hygienist will carefully remove hard deposits of calculus (tartar) that build up on teeth and teach you how to prevent them from coming back. This will do a lot to slow the progression of gum disease.

Where deposits of calculus lie deep in the gums and may cause discomfort during removal, you may be advised to have anaesthesia for certain areas.

Our hygienist will talk to you about your diet and recommend other preventive measures and routines to battle gum disease.

In cases where we feel gum disease is advanced or response to treatment is not very effective, your hygienist will again liaise with your dentist to provide an appropriate referral to a specialist.

Hygiene appointments are 30 minutes each. In cases where there is a need for a very extensive cleaning, you may be advised to have more than one visit.

We offer both a standard or Air polishing hygiene clean. Air polish is a gentle technique that uses a targeted jet of compressed air that is mixed with water and either sodium bicarbonate or glycine powders, all delivered through a small nozzle.

While it is a pain-free and simple technique, it has been proven to be very effective at removing stains from the surface of teeth. As well as removing trapped food debris and plaque build-up from between the teeth.

Because the treatment is so gentle and pain-free, it is ideal for treating children as well and those with sensitive gums and teeth. Air polishing can remove some of the worst stainings from teeth, caused by drinking coffee, tea and red wine, as well as tobacco stains left by smoking.

The cost for a 30-minute Hygiene session is:

Standard – £60

Air polish – £85

Please note, that full payment will be required upon booking the appointment and a £30 non-refundable deposit will be held for a missed appointment and cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice given.
